Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's going to cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and drys mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the amount of dirt they tend to be.
For larger houses it's worth looking for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3

It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
